All registration slots have been filled for the 2011 GRSA Sail Camp. Please check back early in 2012 for information about next year’s program.
The 2011 Sail Camp will be held June 27th – July 1st, with the mandatory orientation and swim test on Sunday June 26th and the fabulous Junior Regatta on July 2nd.
The Greater Richmond Sailing Association’s Junior Sailing Program (or Sail Camp) was established to offer a high-quality program of reasonable priced sailing instruction and boating safety education for children of members, and if space permits, of non-members. The GRSA program has successfully taught hundreds of children to sail over 20 years, several of who have sailed at the collegiate levels. The camp offers three different levels of sailing. The campers start with a Sunfish their first year. They then can move onto Albacore and then Laser. Campers will often spend a second year at the same level, depending on their ability and comfort level. Campers return year after year not only to learn the skill of sailing but also to enjoy days like “Pirate Day”! We are expecting most of our staff from 2010 to return in 2011 so it promises to be an amazing time for all!!
Sail Camp applications will be available online at “GRSA.org” on April 15th. Members get priority, followed by relatives by members, and then non-members. After May 15th, we will accept applications on a first come first serve basis. We have filled every year by May 15th for the past several years so we encourage everyone to get their applications in early. The cost of the camp is $250 for members and $300 for non-members. The minimum age is 9 years old unless approved by the director, Bill Kitchens. If you have any questions, you may contact the Sail Camp Registrar Debbie Taminger (taminger@yahoo.com or 639-0973).
