GRSA Awards

The Greater Richmond Sailing Association Leadership would like to congratulate this year’s award winners. The Awards were presented at the December Annual Meeting on December 2, 2017.

Sailor of the Year Award – Rob Perera

Rob Perera was selected as this year's GRSA's Sailor of the Year. He demonstrated Corinthian Spirit by helping others with boats (putting up masts, dropping boats), a positive spirit, participation in board meetings and focus groups to present positive views for future of the club. Rob also was rated on his service to GRSA. Examples of his services include his recent appointment to the 2018 GRSA Board, as well as volunteering for Race Committee, work day, and the Blue Sky Fund day where he introduced kids to sailing. Rob is known for his race participation, not only at GRSA, but he travels up and down the east coast representing GRSA. Lastly, Rob's race performance stood out for winning in his fleet regattas. Congratulations Rob for being our Sailor of the Year!

Walt Schwanhausser Youth Award – Rachel Leipold

Rachel was selected as the winner of the 2017 Walt Schwanhausser award. Rachel represented the spirit of this annual award through her dedication to GRSA Sail Programs, her passion for the sport, and demonstrating the Corinthian spirit. Rachel completed the rigorous US Sailing certification process this year in order to pass on her knowledge to over 140 students this summer. Rachel continued to grow in her own knowledge by leisure sailing with friends and family throughout the summer. Rachel truly embodied the meaning of this award.

Flying Scot Fleet Award – Kate Gomes

Kate Gomes was awarded the Flying Scot Fleet Award for her annual performance in regattas. Kate was an active race participant this year and is a fierce competitor for the Flying Scot Fleet. She earned this award as a result of her active participation in regattas as well as her stellar standings throughout the year. GRSA is known for one of the largest Flying Scot Fleets in the Country. What an amazing job!

Welcome to GRSA!

The Greater Richmond Sailing Association is a membership organization whose purpose is to promote sailing in the Richmond, Virginia area. Located southwest of Richmond on the Swift Creek Reservoir, GRSA has hosted over 30 years of one-design and PHRF handicapped racing. We feature a full season of racing and social events, with several active fleets.

Current members can get in touch with one of the Members at Large to share some thoughts on events, improvements, or anything else on your mind. If you are interested in membership, please see information for prospective members.

Newly Adopted GRSA Site Rules:

The Board of Directors has recently amended the club Site Rules. Please download a copy and read carefully … especially rules 2 and 4e, 4f and 4g, which have to do with derelict boats, missing stickers and unsightly parking spaces. While all of the rules are important, those in particular need to be followed, as we continue our efforts to clean up the property and make room for new boats. Failure to comply may result in boats being disposed of or additional fees levied.
